Director of Public Health Annual Report

The Director of Public Health has a statutory requirement, under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, to produce an annual report detailing the health of the population.

The purpose of this report is to provide insight into the health of people in Swindon.

The 2023 report focuses on the impact of housing and health. It considers some of the societal, financial, and environmental impacts of poor housing on health, offering an overview of some of the challenges locally as well as the work that is being done to reduce inequalities in access to housing.

Previous Reports

The 2022 report focused on ‘Levelling Up’, the national strategy based around a number of key missions which aims to reduce disparities between regions within the United Kingdom, and to build strong local economies.

The report takes a local public health lens to the ‘Levelling Up’ agenda. It looks at how the ‘Levelling Up’ missions link to health and wellbeing and describes how Swindon’s Public Health team and wider council workforce are involved, directly and indirectly, in delivering those missions to improve life for Swindon’s residents and reduce inequalities.

The 2021 report focused on the impact of Covid-19 on Swindon. It offers an overview of the work that was done at local level to support businesses, schools/education, care homes as well as the media, to prevent and manage virus outbreaks and to ensure relevant messages reached the right people to help keep them safe.

It details some of the ways in which council services supported the local community and those shielding, including an overview of the Covid-19 testing and vaccination programmes.
