The Director of Public Health (DPH) has a statutory requirement, under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, to produce an annual report detailing the health of the population. The purpose of this report is to provide insight into the health of people in Swindon.
The Swindon Director of Public Health report 2026, ‘A Greener, Healthier Swindon’, focuses on the relationship between the environment and health, and how this impacts the wellbeing of residents across the Borough.
The report draws on local data, evidence and case studies to highlight how environmental factors—including food systems, physical activity and active travel, access to green and blue spaces, air quality, extreme weather, and housing—shape health outcomes. It also recognises that these impacts are not experienced equally, with more vulnerable groups at greater risk of poorer health outcomes.
The report outlines the key challenges and opportunities in improving both health and environmental outcomes in Swindon, and highlights a range of local initiatives already taking place across the Borough. It provides recommendations for individuals, communities, partners and the council to support healthier lifestyles, improve environmental conditions, and reduce health inequalities.
The report is available to view or download from the Director of Public Health Annual Reports page.
